Sega Saturn (セガサターン) is the moe personification of the Sega console of the same name.
History
Sega Saturn's first appearance was on January 27, 2013, in the Samurai & Dragons "Segakko 13 ~Yume Kanaeshi Mono" event, along with other 12 console characters, all illustrated by KEI. [1]. She also made an appearance in Sega Hard Girls light novel series in June 10, 2013.
She, Dreamcast, and Mega Drive made their first anime debut in Hi-sCoool! SeHa Girls, an anime series by TMS Entertainment, airing from October 8 to December 24 in 2014. She is voiced by Minami Takahashi.[2]
Character
Sega Saturn has a confident and relaxed attitude, though she can be serious, and wants to accomplish great things. She cannot stand being made fun of or being pushed around, and tends to get mad because of it. In reality, her prideful personality is a front to cope with the mishaps and troubles she faced. [2]
What Makes Her a Personification?
- Her silver coat and black dress is reminiscent of Sega Saturn's hardware, both the North American [3] and Japanese version. [4]
- Her silhouette might have been inspired by Nights from Nights into Dreams, an original Sega title for the Saturn console.[5]
- Saturn's weapons, called "Twin Sticks", is a reference to a Sega Saturn peripheral device.[5][6]
- Her confident personality and tendency to show off is influenced by Sega's aggressive marketing strategy in the 90s, and how Sega Saturn is still praised by Sega fans despite its troubled market performance.[5]
